About the OCA
The OCA exists to promote everything to do with canoeing and to help its members get the most out of their sport. Individuals and families are welcome, regardless of experience.
We've put together some answers to the most frequently asked questions here along with some notes of how we run our trips

Membership includes regular issues of the journal, Open Canoeist, and our newsletter, Tumblehome; affiliation to the BCU; and access to trips, events, coaching and new contacts.
The OCA offers regular coaching sessions to help members gain essential paddling skills, and our Regional representatives co-ordinate trips around the country. Our events are varied and offer something for everyone:
- flat water paddling
- rivers and whitewater playboating
- multi-day trips
- estuary and sea paddling
- canoe sailing
- competition paddling
- coaching and personal skills development
The Open Canoeist gives details of events and opportunities to paddle. It contains articles by members, gear and book reviews and second-hand kit advertisements. Tumblehome keeps you updated with developments and provides recent news and discussion from the canoeing world
The highlight of the year is CanoeFest, the OCA's annual Rally. This very popular event takes place at different venues each year and gives you the chance to try a wide range of demo boats, and to take part in outings, training and skills workshops.
